Bereza tells a story about two lovers who had their names carved on the birch trees. They swear to love each other and spend the rest of their lives together. One day the war hit their hometown, the young man picked up his weapon and rushed to the front line.
"Don’t worry about me, sweetheart" he said, "Wait for me to come back in that birch forest..."
The war was indeed won, but her lover never returned.
